25 Lakh Women Receive Direct Financial Assistance Through DBT
The Bihar government has transferred ₹10,000 each to nearly 25 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, giving a major push to women-led self-employment and small business activities in the state.
Officials said the total amount disbursed through direct benefit transfer (DBT) reached ₹2,500 crore.
The scheme, launched in September 2025, was designed to encourage women to become financially independent by helping them start small businesses, local enterprises, and livelihood-based activities.
The latest transfer is being viewed as one of the largest direct financial support initiatives targeted at women entrepreneurs in Bihar.
Government officials stated that the money has been credited directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and faster delivery. According to available figures, nearly 1.81 crore women have already received the first phase of financial support since the programme began.
The initiative mainly focuses on women from rural and economically weaker backgrounds who often struggle to access formal funding for small-scale business activities.
Many beneficiaries are expected to use the money for tailoring units, dairy work, grocery shops, food businesses, handicrafts, and other local income-generating ventures.
More Financial Support May Be Offered to Successful Beneficiaries
Officials also indicated that women who successfully invest the initial ₹10,000 amount into business activities could become eligible for additional assistance of up to ₹2 lakh in the coming phases of the programme.
The proposed expansion is aimed at helping women scale up their enterprises and create sustainable sources of income.
Economic experts believe such schemes can play a significant role in improving household incomes and increasing women’s participation in local economies.
The use of DBT technology has also helped reduce delays and leakages that previously affected welfare schemes.
The programme comes at a time when several states are increasing focus on women-centric welfare and employment initiatives ahead of a challenging economic environment.
Bihar officials say the government intends to strengthen self-employment opportunities rather than relying only on traditional job creation models.
The scheme has also generated political attention because of its large-scale reach among women voters and rural households.
Supporters describe it as an important step toward economic inclusion, while analysts say the long-term success of the programme will depend on whether beneficiaries receive continued training, market access, and financial guidance after the initial assistance.
