Technology major Meta has officially announced the rollout of comprehensive parental supervision tools for its text-based social media platform, Threads, across the Asia-Pacific region. The latest update is designed to give parents and guardians granular control over how teenagers interact with the application, introducing features that regulate daily screen time, restrict nighttime usage, and manage sensitive privacy preferences.
Integrated directly into Meta’s centralized Family Centre, the new framework extends existing safety measures already operational across the company’s other major applications. Under the updated system, parents gain access to detailed analytics regarding their teen’s digital habits. Guardians can monitor the exact amount of time spent on Threads each day over the preceding week, alongside calculating the average daily usage metrics. Furthermore, parents can enforce customized daily time caps and entirely block platform access during specific days or scheduled hours. Notably, these time limits span across multiple devices, ensuring total cumulative tracking rather than limitations isolated to a single phone or tablet.
The update also incorporates a specialized “sleep mode” to mitigate late-night browsing. This feature automatically mutes notifications and triggers default auto-replies between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM, while allowing parents to customize nighttime restrictions.
Crucially, the expansion introduces deeper governance over Teen Accounts, which already feature inherent safeguards like private profiles and stricter filters on sensitive content. With the new controls, parents of teenagers under the age of 16 hold absolute veto power over whether their children can alter security and privacy settings to make them less restrictive. Additionally, guardians can regulate who is permitted to tag their teens in posts and review specific content filter preferences.
Meta stated that these enhancements aim to establish a transparent, secure digital environment while keeping all parental mechanics consolidated in one unified dashboard. The rollout marks a critical step in addressing youth digital safety concerns across the Asia-Pacific market, with the corporation hinting at further feature integrations in the near future.
