Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone could bring one of the most ambitious camera systems the company has ever introduced, according to fresh reports emerging from China.
New leaked information suggests that the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro Max may feature two powerful 200-megapixel cameras, marking a significant shift from its predecessor’s photography setup.
The leak claims that the device will include a 200MP primary camera equipped with a new-generation LOFIC image sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches. Such a large sensor could help improve light capture, dynamic range, and overall image quality, particularly in challenging lighting conditions.
Alongside the main camera, Xiaomi is reportedly preparing a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. The zoom camera is said to offer 3x optical zoom with an f/2.4 aperture and use a sizable 1/1.56-inch sensor.
Although the optical zoom range would be lower than the current generation’s 5x zoom camera, the larger sensor could potentially deliver sharper images and better low-light performance.
One of the most interesting upgrades mentioned in the report is enhanced macro photography.
The telephoto camera is expected to focus on subjects from as close as 15 centimeters away, allowing users to capture detailed close-up shots.
This would be a notable improvement over the approximately 30-centimeter focusing distance found on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
The rumored camera changes represent a major departure from the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which features a 50MP main camera and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens.
If the latest information proves accurate, Xiaomi appears to be focusing heavily on high-resolution photography and improved versatility for its next premium smartphone.
Beyond the camera system, previous reports suggest that the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor.
The device is also rumored to feature a large 6.9-inch flat LIPO OLED display and retain the secondary rear display that has become a recognizable design element of the series.
Additional improvements are expected to include upgraded stereo speakers and a more advanced vibration motor, potentially enhancing both multimedia and gaming experiences.
While Xiaomi has yet to officially confirm these specifications, the latest leaks indicate that the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could be one of the most feature-packed flagship smartphones of the coming year.
