GTA 6’s Massive Download Size Confirmed as Rockstar Moves Pre-Load Date Forward

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will require up to 212 GB of storage, giving players a clearer idea of the space needed ahead of the game’s highly anticipated launch. The developer has also moved the digital pre-load date forward by two days, allowing console owners more time to download the game before its scheduled November 19 release.

According to Rockstar’s latest announcement, digital pre-loading will begin on November 10 for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The early download period is intended to help players prepare the game in advance and start playing as soon as it becomes available.

GTA 6 Pre-Load Dates Confirmed for PS5 and Xbox

PlayStation 5 owners will be able to start downloading GTA 6 at midnight local time on November 10. Meanwhile, Xbox Series X|S users can begin pre-loading at 12 AM GMT on the same date.

The schedule for physical editions is different. Players purchasing physical copies will have to wait until November 12 to begin downloading the game. According to the announcement, these editions include download codes rather than physical game discs.

With the digital pre-load starting nine days before launch, players should have sufficient time to download the large game files, provided they have a stable internet connection and enough available storage.

Official Storage Requirement Matches Earlier Leaks

The confirmed storage requirement of up to 212 GB is close to earlier estimates circulating online. PlayStation Game Size had previously claimed that the PS5 version would require approximately 210 GB, making the earlier estimate just 2 GB lower than Rockstar’s newly announced figure.

Earlier reports also suggested that a development build of GTA 6 exceeded 200 GB. However, development versions do not necessarily reflect the final game’s storage requirements.

Rockstar has noted that the actual storage requirement may vary depending on the device. This could be particularly important for Xbox Series S owners, especially those using the 512 GB model, where available storage space is more limited.

As the November 19 launch approaches, players are advised to check their console storage and remove unnecessary files if needed. GTA 6 is shaping up to be a major download, making advance preparation important for players eager to explore Rockstar’s next open-world release.
